![]() HTHThanks Gary! Im pretty confident I can handle the processor upgrade. Some of the other factors like your audio interface connection, and specific DAW may also be relevant decision criteria. I suppose that since you're considering the OWC deal, that you're not confident in your ability to do the 4-core to 6-core upgrade yourself. Perhaps a local person can help you do it. That would get you a 3.33GHz 6-core processor (x5680) the required 3mm hex wrench, and a dab of heatsink compound. If you did the 4-to-6 upgrade yourself, the total cost would be about $60. Changing trays for a 12-core is not cost-effective when compared to getting a Mac Mini, and you could buy an entire 12-core 2010 Mac Pro for that OWC price not just the tray. The 4-to-6 upgrade is *almost* worthwhile at the OWC price in that it'll allow you to see if the additional capability of a little more clock and two more cores is enough to relieve the mixing bottleneck. ![]() Im looking into a turnkey OWC processor tray upgrade which has a lot of options ranging from a 6 core 2.93GHz ($250) all the way to a dual 6 core 3.46GHz ($1380).
